Laryngectomee Guide

“The Laryngectomee Guide,” written by Alliance board member, Alliance ambassador and throat cancer survivor, Dr. Itzhak Brook, is a very helpful resource for laryngectomees, their caregivers, and medical professionals. It contains information about the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy; methods of speaking; airway, stoma, and voice prosthesis care; eating and swallowing; medical, dental and psychological concerns; respiration; anesthesia; and traveling.

The Guide is available now in 22 languages/dialects:English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish (Central American, Andine, Spain, and South American version), Bulgarian, Romanian, Bosnian, Croatian, Slovak, Turkish, Greek, Arabic, Persian, Simple and traditional Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Japanese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Russian, and Polish.

“The Laryngectomee Guide for the COVID-19 Pandemic” is also now available in English. It provides information about preventing infection, dealing with voice prosthesis leak, social isolation, psychological issues, and hospitalization. 

The American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and other otolaryngological societies across the world have made the Guide available for free download on their websites. Paperback copies are also given to laryngectomees in Taiwan and Bulgaria thanks to generous grants.
