Chief Patient Experience Officer and Stage IV Metastatic Head and Neck Cancer Survivor; Redondo Beach, CA
Anthony’s late Stage IV metastatic head and neck cancer diagnosis redefined his life’s purpose.
Prior to his 2009 diagnosis, he spent 16+ years as a successful business professional in risk management/high exposure litigation, and his core competencies were to develop and motivate a sustainable, high performing staff. Problems are opportunities to Anthony, whose goal is to address barriers and exceed expectations.
When faced with navigating an intensive course of more than 370 hours of in-patient chemotherapy, 40 radiation treatments, and six surgical procedures on his journey towards wellness, Anthony mustered his strength, persevered, and a new life path awaited him.
Anthony now serves as Chief Patient Experience Officer (CXO) at Patients Partnering with Health Systems, and is committed to being a diligent and ethical business partner and trusted advisor. He focuses on improving and sustaining patient satisfaction scores, training and mentoring staff and management, meeting regulatory and accreditation standards, and exceeding strategic goals by building relationships, fostering teamwork, implementing organizational change, and building community relationships.
He also serves as a Community Liaison for the Cancer Support Community of Redondo Beach and proudly partners with noted organizations as an inspirational and informational guest speaker, championing patient and family-centered care and safety. He is an active member of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), the VHA Inc., CMS’s Partnership for Patients, American Hospital Association-HPOE, PFCC Partners, Planetree, and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). With his aim fixed on best practices and resolving root obstacles, Anthony works towards giving patients and families a designated, engaged, full-time set of eyes, strong shoulders, a heart, and a voice.
Anthony’s balanced approach of partnering engaged patients and families with compassionate healthcare professionals is not revolutionary. It’s evolutionary. Previously, Anthony served as the founding Patient/Family Advisor and chaired the Patient/Family Advisory Committee (PFAC) at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. He currently chairs the PFAC for the Los Angeles Department of Health Services, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, pro bono.
At his core, he’s a family man, lives and plays at the beach in Southern California, and loves to cook. He’s an ex-hockey player and a frustrated golfer. He was born and educated in New York and is overly consumed with fantasy football.
